It's not abnormal, but from someone who's learned a lot from tough relationships at that age, my advice is to find someone at your school who can relate to what you're going through. The age gap will cause rifts, and breaking it off will not be the end of the world, I promise, no matter what it seems like now. College is an awesome experience, and her immaturity will start to show. You'll want space, and having been a 16 year old girl once, I can confidently tell you now she won't be able to give it to you. Good luck and have fun with college, and be gentle if you decide to break it off with her.
A girl of that age wouldn't be very far behind the bloke in maturity. The issue will be that as they both mature more one or both will outgrow the other, but that's hardly unusual no matter what the age difference is
