I think Nevada-style "chicken ranch" bordellos take unfair advantage of their workers. They're not much better than pimps. Legalized outcall ("call girl") prostitution is a far better solution.
I don't believe that prostitution prevents rape. Most rapists are known to their victims, and rape is almost always about asserting power, degrading and punishing the victim, not about the perpetrator's uncontrolled sexual desire.
