No it's not normal and you can be thankful for that. That puts you in a very small group of people who choose the music they like versus like the music that happens to be available during their lifetime, i.e., popular music. It frankly says a lot about you and your reluctance to be just another sheep in the herd listening to whatever one else is listening to for no good reason, examined reason anyway.
It's humorous to me to listen to kids and adults wax poetic on how deep they are into music and then I'll ask them about other genres and other eras and it's just blank stares.
Like most aspects in life, examining why you like something never occurs to most.
