I don't know if its normal but I do this a lot too, though its not what I do its like I'm narrating a story in my head-much like you do- but afterwards I'll write it down.
But yeah, using your example I would get out of a shower but in my head I'd say something like, ' She looked around, her heart thumping in her chest as a loud creak of the floor step creaked behind her.' Or something like that, but yeah, I consider it normal ^.\\
