  • It's normal for you to see yourself that way, but my comment was not just a cheap jibe.

    • That says the UK. Not every conservative are the same in al countries. And there are different types of conservatives- far right, and in the middle-conservative are most common

I think you need to stop basing your views off Trump

      • If you hadn't been so afraid of reading something you didn't like that you refused to use the link, you would have discovered that the article begins, "Politically, Americans are highly divided." It's a UK website, but the article is primarily about the USA, and I assume it was originally published there.

A couple of scrolls down, you would have also read, "A 2003 review of research conducted in five countries looked at 22 separate tests of the hypothesis that fear fuels conservative viewpoints and found it was universally true." (Link provided to research in the original article.)

Thanks for your suggestion, but I have one to give you: stop assuming that my views of American politics are based solely on the despicable Trump, his egregious enablers in Congress and his pathetic supporters.

My first specifically political memory goes back to when I was still in elementary school and is of hearing my very conservative father talk approvingly of Barry Goldwater. That name probably means nothing to you, but he was the Republican presidential candidate in 1964. My parents were semi-involved in various whacko right-wing political stuff and Christian fundamentalist idiocy following that, but my next specifically political memory is of going with my racist father to the local campaign headquarters for George Wallace's 1968 presidential run as an independent. Even as a kid, I remember getting a very weird and uncomfortable vibe off the people working there.

So I think I'm pretty well-informed when it comes to American politics over the last fifty years or so, and I'm definitely well-aware on a very personal level of the psychology underlying the conservative mindset.

        • I actually did read the link
And one simple test doesn’t justify every country. And that was a while back. Conservatives have changed drastically since then, and now not every conservative has the same viewpoint or range. Especially german conservatives

          • Believe what you need to believe, dude. It's not my job to help you see sense.

But understand this: many of your chosen political bedfellows detest you and what you represent. They may be openly hostile, or it might be covert so long as the law requires it to be. But those who "hold traditional beliefs and are wary of change" - as you so blandly phrase it - do not include gay guys in their definition of "normal", and they never will. For all sorts of reasons, your sexuality is way too challenging to them.

            • Again so harsh on every post.

I do know many conservatives have a bad example, but same as liberals. I know many who don’t know those who frame the rest for a prime example. But may I ask who are you speaking to for gay guy, the OP, right?

              • Yeah, you kept coming back, so I assumed you were the OP. If not, my apologies. My comments on sexuality still apply to the OP, though.

As for my supposed harshness, I'm not attacking you personally, just stating the facts as I see them and, in the case of the research findings on conservatives in general, pointing out what that research has found.

Given how those on the right constantly deride those on the left as "snowflakes" when they object to racist or ad hominem attacks, it is amusing that you apparently take this as personally insulting.
