What's interesting is that many people seem to think we are the plague of the earth... yet NATURE has exterminated more species than we ever had.
Seriously, 99.9% of ALL species that have ever been on the earth were extinct before we ever existed.
This growing trend of hating humans for existing and daring to touch the earth is... rather insane in my opinion.
and as much as some want to say "omg we're *destroying* the earth... in reality the earth will bounce back given time. i mean hell it surved 99.9% of species going extinct after all.
But you also have to think of the species that have become extinct, or near extinct also. We have lots lots of rainforest, animals and such because some human beings are greedy, or hunt for ivory, fur etc. Also animal testing still happens (I know people that work for beauty companies) so as a whole humans have not looked after this plant as well as they could have. Landfill, food waste, greed, war to name a few have ravaged large areas of this planet. And the hole in the ozone layer is bigger than the north pole...
It can clearly be seen on Google maps satellite. Europe was once covered in oak forests. Look at it now. Look at the Western half of Kentucky, as another small example. Look at how much of the Amazon rainforest has been cut down to make coffee farms. Much of New England was once clear cut, it has been able to heal only because the practice has greatly diminished, and because the eastern American forests are particularly quick to regenerate.
I could go on and on. The link you posted refers to responsible logging practices that do not result in deforestation, but are also not universally practiced. Deforestation is real and is occurring today. You cannot deny what can clearly be seen.

This is the problem with many "earth happy" theories... they assume humans are evil for touching the earth and must be eliminated.
instead of actually studying FACTS they stir the "omg shock" masses with misinformation.
for example... game species. BECAUSE of human intervention we actually have MORE of them now than we did 200 years ago.
but hey why let facts interfere with the doom and gloom drama, right?

I was specifically talking about deforestation. That humans have caused unprecedented deforestation is undeniable, and very saddening to me.
