Is it normal that espresso coffee tastes different dipending on the brand?

If I buy instant coffee, I don't know why, but seems that they all taste the same! Is there a reason why espresso coffee taste different?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Are you asking if different brands of espresso coffee taste different, why instant coffee is all pretty much the same, or why espresso tastes different to instant?

Having lived in Italy for several years, I know that shops carry a range of different brands of espresso coffee. If Italians have preferences for different blends and brands of espresso, you can be fairly sure that there are real differences in taste and aroma.

Instant coffee is a mass-market product. It's intended to be easy on the palates of people who aren't seriously into coffee, but just want a hit of caffeine.

Espresso tastes different to instant because the process of making it is very different. I know espresso has a lot of oils that aren't present in drip coffee (the filter removes those). I'd speculate that instant coffee manufacturers also remove those oils because they could go rancid in the jar.
