Is it normal that children think they're special

  • I agree with colourmoon. Kids have always been that way... No specific reason, they just have. We all aspire to be bigger than ourselves, to be the best and brightest. Boys want to be the heroes slaying the dragon, girls often want to be the princess. They want to be special, different, unique. However, cynicism and reality soon set in, and they realize they are none of these things.
This is also a problem in high school... And one of the flaws of the education system in my opinion. Kids are praised at the slightest provocation, and have their egos stroked by being the big star athlete or special awards and all that. While this is good to a point, it often is taken too far, to the point where they have a long way to fall to reality after graduation. They are on their own, where they're used to someone holding their hand throughout high school. I feel like we should better prepare kids for this. But that's just my opinion.

    • I totally agree that there is such a great emphasis on kids' self-esteem that their expectations are not realistic anymore.

One girl out of beauty school made such a mess of painting nails at my friend's nail salon, she burst into tears when she failed the test. According to her, she was the best student in her class. According to my friend, she was the worst applicant she'd ever had!!

I feel sorry for them ~ although some do manage to bullshit their way into some great jobs.
