Why are you offering them sweets? The first two rules of stranger danger are “don’t get in their car” and “don’t take sweets from strangers”. I’m not surprised alarm bells are ringing in their heads over that.
I never asked any if them to get in my car, except for my nephew of course so I could take him to his uncle's house. I tried offering them candy because it's around Halloween and some of the kids were wearing costumes so I thought they might want some

Even in context that’s still best avoided, at the end of the day you’re still a strange man offering them candy.
