I always felt like this growing up. I never fitted in with any of the girl groups in school and I often felt like I had to fake interest in the most stupid things in order to make friends with a bunch of people who I didn't even enjoy being around. I just ended up hanging around with boys because it was much easier to be myself.
I've found it's gotten much better with age. People are less afraid to be themselves as they get older, so it's easier to find women you genuinely click with because the women you meet aren't desperately trying to fit in and conform to the stereotypical female role. All those interests that made me an outcast in school - anime, gaming, comics, sci fi, sports etc - it turns out that A LOT of other women are into that stuff too.
The truth is that most women aren't really as "girly girl" and bitchy as you might think. There's a whole spectrum of interesting and well rounded women out there that you might get on well with, you just have to keep putting yourself out there. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you "just get on better with the guys". It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and you end up missing out on a lot of cool friendships.
It's totally fine to have guy friends and guy role models, but try to stay open minded towards the females as well.
Very well said, however what I would like to add is it also depends on how you were raised. If a woman is raised in a more dominant male or masculine household than those women are going to carry over those masculine traits when they grow up.
IIN that as a woman, I feel like I can't relate much to my own gender?
