Is it normal that as a kid i had a weird staring problem for a little bit?

I remember when i was a kid there was a little while where i couldnt stop staring at my mothers face. I just had this uncontrollable urge to stare at her. Shes not attractive or unnattractive shes my mom lol. At one point she noticed and said something, "why are you staring at me??" I replied, "i wasnt!" Kind of embarassed. I dont do it anymore so it must have went away, but was my brain highjacked by instinct or some shit?! I know our brains are specifically wired to recognize faces. Anyone else have this problem or know what that was all about?
