Well, If you can see their point or why they'd want you too then that might be telling you something. It's not really about losing your inner child, but they're just asking for a compromise. Rethink how you're looking at things or what mature means to you, because it doesn't necessarily mean uptight or stuffy as you seem to imply. Like for example, my definition of mature is someone who is more mindful and considerate about other people, or tries to see both sides of an issue and approach it from the middle. Frankly, not a brat.
No one should lose their inner child and it would make sense to want to make up for your childhood, but as long as you don't use your past as an excuse to act this way or do whatever you want, then you're fine.
And just reiterate your words. You DON'T ever want to be immature, but you probably should want to aim for "youthful" or "full of life" instead
