While its not usual, I don't think it is abnormal. A lot of people are more drawn to the chase (the conquest) than the actual person.
An easy way to overcome this issue, if you want to try a relationship that lasts beyond the first encounter, is to spend the first 3+ months of the relationship without having sex. I don't mean chase her for 3 months, but actually date her for 3 months or longer before you become intimate.
Psychologists have found that after 3 months, the initial lust phase or 'puppy love' begins to wear off. Then you will be able to determine if you're actually interested in the woman, or the conquest.
