There's a wide variety of great rock and metal bands out there, too many to name. I don't know why some people choose the really aggressive growly ones. Iron Maiden are the best hard rock band in my opinion, The Beatles are the best band overall, and bands like The Who, Genesis and Queen are also favourites with massive talent, Genesis especially - you can't beat Supper's Ready, THAT is a groundbreaking piece of music.
I guess some people just can't appreciate music that doesn't sound angry and rude :/
