Actually...meat digests more quickly than veggies. Look at any carnivore, they have smaller digestive tracts than herbivores. Meat disolves almost instantly when it hits stomach acid.
As Omnivores, scavanging meat actually accelerated the evolutionary path towards high intelligence. Opportunists, such as early man, could obtain enough energy to power a larger brain, at lower expense, than our failed counterparts by eating meat. ...and I still say, as we push our population towards the brink of starvation, herbivores taste better...just sayin' ;)
