Is it normal should have age verification

I think this website needs to have an age verification because teens come and go as they please. All they leave as comment is not helpful at all, just dumb opinions which is due to their lack of experience in life. Creepypasta got age verification now and i think this website should have it too.
Don't you agree? If you're under 18, don't comment.

Well, since your reason for wanting this is because you want to avoid pointless comments - I say it's not so much of a bullet-proof plan. Let's say, in some unknown world, there is a legitimate age verification. I bet you there will still be that left over bunch of 48 year old unemployed bums trolling the internet (including IIN). Just saying.

  • Age verification on the internet is impossible. Obviously you can simply lie about your age. I remember when I was a kid going onto adult websites with no problem. I cannot imagine ever having age verification on the internet. The only way to keep kids off adult sites if for the parents to put a block on the computer and even then it's not hard to get around or they can use another device. It will never work.

It seems pretty easy to spot the 11, 12 year old's on this site, just by some of the questions they post. I find most of them amusing and pretty stupid.

Exactly how would YOU suggest verifying someone's age on the internet?
Would you give away your personal info like credit card numbers to some site like INN just to screw around? Let's get a bit REAL here and not make a mountain out of a few children thinking they can play with the adults.

    • Just take a look at the creepypasta website. An age verification message pops up where you have to type your month/day/year to gain access to the site.

Are you really THAT trusting? Who do you think that stops? A 4th grader could pass that verification, don't you think? No, YOU want age verification, then YOU come up with a system that works.

Really? I don't see how. It would be a total waste of time of anyone to institute such a useless system.

It is nothing. There is no difference between lying that you are over 18, which you already would have to do to join this site if you're under 18, and lying about your birthday. It is the same thing.

And teens are just "so inept", they cannot lie about the month/day/year?

I thought creepypasta was made for the amusement of 15yo's?

    • Yes it used to be until the kids started freaking out reading those stories. They had to put age verification. IIN also needs to have age verification cause it contains adult content as well.

Better to let parents lock out our website.

The idea is great in theory but it doesn't stop people from lying about their ages. Yeah we could use the Credit Card age verification technique but I doubt many people here would be open to the idea of disclosing such information.

My suggestion is to limit access or disable some of the features on IIN which we currently do with the chatroom.

Maybe we could for example, limit the number of comments per day, no thumbs up or down option, restrict the number of threads to 1 per day, etc. until they earn the right thru other members thumbing up their comments/posts.

It isn't a fool proof solution but it should stop some of the shit on here.
