Is it normal people would eat such an animal?

  • Actually, Octopuses (Order: Octopoda) are far smarter than dogs. All Octopuses are Sentient creatures and some are Sentient and Ethical creatures.
Dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) are not Sentient creatures, and are not very smart at all, although they might appear that way. They are simply trained to behave in certain ways, as they are usually fully dependent on humans for their survival.
It is well established that Cats (Felis catus) and Pigs (Genus: Sus) are far smarter than dogs.

    • Dogs are sentient creatures. Do you know what sentient means?

      • Dogs are not Sentient creatures, although some of them might mimic this behaviour at times.
I use the term 'Sentient' in the context that the VHATC-L2 prefer. They define 'Sentience' as a creature that has an ability to look forward (in time).

        • That's not really the English definition, regardless of what your galactic alien buddies from 'VHATC-L2' say.

It's used to mean something that can feel (e.g. pleasure/pain), hence its etymological origin: from the Latin word 'sentient' meaning 'feeling'. A dog is sentient because it can feel - it feels pleasure, pain etc. and reacts to external and internal stimuli.

Furthermore, I don't agree that a dog is unable to 'look forward in time'. A very basic example of this are when you teach a dog to retrieve a branch; when you hold the branch in front of the dog, the dog displays signs that it is expecting you to throw the branch. It is referring to memory as a means of predicting the near future i.e. looking forward in time to determine the appropriate action in the present. This is exactly what we do.
