Is it normal not to remember?

I look at old (up to 3 years ago) pictures of me, and I feel... nothing. I don't even remember the day, or how I was feeling, when I look at it, it's like it's not even me, as if I'm looking at someone else, i don't understand why.
You know when you bingewatch a series and 2 weeks later you only remember some parts vaguely, it's the same thing..
I'm 21 years old.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

The way I see it is that there is something missing making this happen. Perhaps you don’t get enough sleep or maybe your doing drugs. Sorry idk if either is case idk you. But it’s unlikely that you have dementia or something

Think of your mind as a computer. It has its upsides (language comprehension, recorded preferential tastes, multiple senses running at almost all times, etc..) but also has its downsides. While we're capable of remembering around 100 years (give or take), Our system (brain) has a subprogram called the subconscious. It's wants to look out for you and does its best to do so. That said, it's at times and idiot. It's responsible for processing what's important to keep regarding memories, breathing without thinking about it, noticing details you haven't (eg, the faces of people you've passed in the street) and even your dreams! There are methods to using your subconscious to your advantage which you can look into at any time if interested :)

It's fairly normal to not remember unimportant moments that occurred a long time ago or mediocre series.

If memory loss / confusion is interfering with your daily life, i.e. you forget important things or can't recognize your friends sometimes, then you should see a doctor. This sounds normal though.
