It isn't only husbands that do this. I worked with a guy who got a couple of phone calls a day from his wife. Uh-huh.....uh-huh.....uh-huh.....yes, well.....uh-huh.....uh-huh... Do you think he was listening?
You should probably level with him, acknowledge that you're glad what he does makes him happy and admit that you don't have the faintest idea of what he's talking about. Where the stress comes in is when you think that you should understand what he's saying, so you either pretend you do or tune him out. Tell him that if he wants you to appreciate what he does, he should spend a few minutes explaining something very simple to you. You listen. Breaking it down for your audience to understand is a teaching skill, and a valuable one.
