I was at work a few years back talking to a younger co-worker, he was probably 19 or 20, and I mentioned that someone was a "junkie" to which he replied "what's that?" which lead to me asking a very confused "what's what?".
I guess with so many words and so many different situations that they apply to, someone can go through a good chunk of life without being exposed to what most of us consider basic vocabulary.
That said, not knowing "mock" (a common action) is far worse than not knowing "junkie" (an opinion based title).
