I've never been convinced that people change themselves. I think environment changes people. Why is your friend trying to change you anyway, unless he thinks it'll make you happier?
No. Some people are not products of their environment, but of the aimless evolution of personal ideas. Such ones are the reserved, solitary individuals who are immune or nearly immune to the influence of human social psychology. They are the "weirdos".
Is it normal not to be sure if you could change for the better?

What is aimless evolution?
If you are evolving, doesn't that mean you are trying to reach perfection?
Or are you saying that those individuals live in their thoughts and do not react upon their environment?
