its normal not to want to hurt somebody. But if he finds out youve lied youll feel like youve done something wrong. is he asking you ?if so tell him you are not obligated but you are a decent human being

If someone is your ex, then you should not care what they think and it should perfectly fine for you tell them you have moved on. Unless you still have feelings for that ex. And if you do still have feelings for that ex, you shouldn't be in a new relationship anyways.

Why do you feel like you should tell him that in the first place?

When my ex asked if I was dating anybody after him, I was tempted to say "No, it's none of your business." However, I decided I wasn't afraid of what his reaction would be, and proudly announced that, "Yes, I do have a boyfriend." Because it is true, and I have no reason to hide it.

no it's not normal part of moving on is telling your ex about how happy you are without them. Not telling them may mean you still have feelings for the ex
