What he needs to do is establish the fact that he is not the biological father ASAP. This can be done by signing an affadavit (that satisfies legal requirements) with his wife or if she is not cooperative, he needs to get a court admissable DNA test done and then have his rights and responsibility terminated.
Then he needs to leave because even if he legally establishes the fact that he is not the dad but stays and raises the kid for enough time he could be back on the hook.
