Maybe she has the Oedipus complex in reverse. maybe she is in love with your son and does not like the idea of competition from other women. I think if you can, try to put in a report and get her determined to be an unfit parent. Than she wont be able to ever see the child again.
The calling a girl you have all known since she was 5 a skank and cutting off your son completely sounds like control issues. She wants to know she has complete control over your son and she does not want the real world threatening it. Sounds extremely possessive.
If things work out her way he will end up 40 with a successful job but still relying on her to cook, clean and take care of him and unable to have contact with any friends or people he might date. I don't think she is using restrictions to help your son. I think they are simply means to control him.
