Is it normal my speech is cleaner than my brothers?

  • I think it depends on what your idea of disrespect is and how you view vulgar language. For instance some people, like it seems you do, tend to see swear words as disrespectful or even lowly, while others view them just like any other word used to emphasize emotion or meaning. Neither points of view are wrong, it just depends on how both you and the person you're communicating with feels about it.

In my family we all curse but it's not seen as disrespectful in the least. It's never done in an angry way and never directed at one another- it's just a convenient way to get a point across when talking about something that incites strong emotion that everyone can easily understand.

On the other hand, sometimes people who curse excessively do so in an attempt to seem "tough" or, in the case of adolescents, more mature. Ironically, it has the opposite effect and can make one seem linguistically stunted.

Anyway, as long as your parents aren't offended by it and it's not excessive or for no real reason, I think it's normal.
