  • He's a "functioning alcoholic" and he needs to get help before something real bad happens. Additionally, he will teach your kids to become alcoholics, by default. Monkey see, monkey do. Don't believe me? Fine, do nothing about his drinking problem and time will prove me right.

He may not necessarily have to stop drinking altogether, but he's gotta cut wayyyy back... Drinking and going to work will get him fired, possibly killed one day. Drinking to get drunk all the time means that something is making him unhappy enough where he is using the bottle as a scape-goat. Drinking regularly is destroying his liver and will ultimately shorten his life-span and send him to an early grave.

Tell him I say quit drinking so much you fuckin' dumbass!
It's not just HIS life that he's slowly destroying, it's his wife and children's lives too!

From a former functioning high school and college alcoholic who now rarely drinks but on occassion. (ME.)

Don't necessarily have to believe all of the B.S. that they feed you... you can still have a drink every now and then, but you MUST have the self-control to stop. Not everyone can do that after they've been an alchy, and so most just never touch the stuff again. Guess it's safe to say that I'm one of the "exceptions to the rule".

P.S. PLEASE tell him DON'T EVER DRINK AND DRIVE. Take the keys away from him and hide them. If he threatens you or beats you, call the cops and have him arrested. We've all been there at some point in time. Remember this... the life you may save will be everyone else's around you, not just your own.
