Is it normal my father call me idiot?

My father always called me stupid and had no time for me, always helping the boy next door (two years older than me) with his home work saying that I should do mine on my own.
When he died age 44 he was still a brick layer (who couldn't find work after WW2) Stupid me, when I retired two years ago was a senior aerospace quality engineer!
My mother never thought I was too bright either, she thought I was a floor sweeper in some back street factory.

I voted NO. Under most circumstances, a parent calling you names is detrimental for your healthy psychological development, especially if it's habitual. Parents are supposed to want their kids to grow up psychologically healthy.

If he was jokingly trash talking you during a game of cards because you screwed up on a hand, then it's normal. But besides little edge cases like that, your parents shouldn't be calling you an idiot.
