If I ever suddenly "found" several million dollars (probably several hundred million) I'd build myself a completely self-contained underground "vault" (except for the solar panels) with a greenhouse etc too. Something that could house say 10 people in relative comfort for at least 10 years, with fully NBC filtered air, water recycling, etc.
Personally I believe that the shit will hit the fan sooner rather than later, be it nuclear war, rampant global warming, or whatever. The resultant breakdown of civilisation as we know it won't be a "fun" place to live in, and if I could I'd love a place to escape to with a few friends.
Sadly, I'm not in a position to do this (because I'm destitute) so I hope my fat crippled ass dies before having a self-contained "end-of-the-world shelter" is needed.
