Is it normal my cousin and i like eachother?

I actually dated my second cousin. We were never introduced as cousins and we met at school when we were about 10 or so. We learned that we were cousins when we were around 13. We grew an attraction for eachother as we enjoyed the same stuff. He is 19 now and I am 16. We dated for a year and a half until he moved away. We did have a sexual relationship, and we still love eachother very much. Our families never looked down upon us, but we all make a joke of it that we are cousins. If I could, I would drop everything, run away and be with him. When he does come home, we are always together. Not everyone accepts it, but it's something you learn to live with.

If you love eachother, go for it. If you are unsure about it, still go for it. No one is going to get hurt. But you just have to be careful because you don't want to end up hating eachother if you are in a relationship because in the end you still have to see eachother at some point on your life. It is normal and common. Just remember though that because you are so closely related by blood, should you ever have children the chances of your kids having birth defects and/or learning disorders ( mental retardation) are greatly increased. Are you prepared for that? Love is what it is, and everyone knows that. Not trying to tell you what to do, just want you to know what may lay ahead if you have children together. My friend married her first cousin and they have 3 kids together. There first child was born with 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot. Their second child is severely mentally retarded and has 3 kidneys. The 3rd child is a dwarf, and has the 6 fingers/toes and moderately mentally retarded. They are pregnant with child number 4, due in September 2011. They can not take care of the 3 kids they have on their own, and the state provides services for their children. Social Security benefits, Medicaid/Medicare and respite. They are in Special Education classes and are all happy-go-lucky kids oblivious to their defects. Without assistance from the state, and school system these kids would not be functional young adults. The parents are trying for a "normal" child... I don't agree with their thinking, and I don't have to because it isn't my choice, or my life. Just for your info...good luck!
