He's twenty, if it took him a long time, he wasn't doing what you were thinking, he was waiting. (and if he gave up on waiting, then he probably thought of someone else to solve his problem -- evidenced by his avoidance)
Either way, you have nothing to feel embarrassed about; it is normal for him to feel awkward, but its not his fault either.
He is probably avoiding you because he feels embarassed and awkward. If you felt him, he felt you and knows that you are both aware of this uncomfortable situation. His avoidance means feelings have not really changed, just a little awkward.
If he wasnt a little awkward for a while, that would be weird. give him some time to forget about it. avoid that situation again. You may be able to squish between two siblings, or span knees of two different people to not be on anyone's crotch. if you have a younger sibling to be on your lap instead, Or, with 3 people in 2 seats, or 4 people and 3 seats, you can stack by gender.
btw, having more people than seatbelts in a car you can probably get a ticket. (no judgement, been there myself, and in a truckbed with an airmatress )
just ignore the people trying to pressure you into making it worse. just hang out with him like normal, go get pizza and dont talk about that day. let things be the way they were, so they can go back to that.
Lastly, don't trust these guys (the internet is full of jerks) for advice. Find someone you can trust. If you are a part of a religious group, find a youth-oriented leader who you like. Or if you have some other person who you can trust (to keep your secret) of whose advise you know before it is given to be good, some teacher or club leader that you are close to.
IIN my brother got hard when I sat on his lap?
