my sis's husband does something similar to this ... he stuffs his mouth as full as he can (has food stuffed into both cheeks) and will drink as much as he can hold in his mouth, and then slowly chew and swallow his food ... he will take five or ten minutes to " empty out" his cheeks. it's the oddest thing. but she says that's just how he learned to eat as a kid.
