I can understand if it's a place that's strongly associated with a past girlfriend, especially if it was painful breaking up with her. But if it's just any place that he went there a few times with then he's just being a bit stubborn. What's really fucked up though is that he'd tell someone he went there with his ex instead of you, that's just weird and disrespectful.
