Diffidently from the South lol. I deal with it every day and people really do sound like that they even do it text messages. Kids grow up talking Southern and to me it would be almost impossible to break from my accent. You use at home, teachers use heavy accents in school, truly some people can't change something ingrained into them most of there lives even if you move away or even speak a new language. The accent is hard to get rid of and I definitely speak that way to my family or my home because that's whats 'natural" for people with those accents.
For what its worth, I think you should be proud of your accent. (I think southern accents sound quite nice). I'm French, and sometimes I wish I could get rid of my accent because people sometimes make assumptions about me without getting to know me first.

Exactly! I get 'dumb farm hick' it seems from southern Arkansas just by opening my mouth, all the time. None the less I can't make it go away.
I thought your people came from a bit West, or is it East of that accent, but it was funny!
