Unfortunately it is common. A lot of female comedians (probably all) have gotten the "You're funny for a girl" or "I didn't know women could be funny." But you need to look on the bright side. Things are getting drastically better. Look at the female comedians of our time: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Sara Silverman, Wanda Sykes, Kristen Wiig. They're successful and they've proven that women can be funny to any audience. There's a reason why the movie Bridesmaids was such a big deal. It was a comedy from a woman's point of view that both female and male audiences enjoyed. Why? Because it was fucking hilarious.
