  • Personally, I think it's hilarious when a prepubescent kid is talking smack on call of duty and kicking everyone's ass at it. But I've also seen the other side of it where you can really tell that they definitely aren't mature enough to handle such a game and they do get annoying and whiny sometimes. It's not that hard to mute them though.

I am a firm believer that it's the parent's responsibility to determine if their kids are mature enough to handle a video game or not. So don't blame the kids, blame their sorry ass parents.

      Oh, I like you.
Most of my peers (by the way, I am 20 so I am trying to figure out where it all went downhill) look at me strangely when I told them that I was not allowed to play games that were rated M until I was around 16-17 because my parents felt that I was too young and immature to handle that content.

They both worked full-time, but my father (who was a gamer himself) either pre-screened the content, looked online and read the reviews or asked his buddies who owned the game and my Mother, to some extent, did the same (although she was a bit more lenient). My parents also made frequent use of the V-chip. If it was rated as more mature than my age group and they didn't pre-screen it or they did and didn't like it, I was not allowed to watch it.

They say my parents were way to strict and protective of me but I disagree. I don't think that it is strict to moderate the content your children take in and try to keep it age-appropriate so they don't learn things that they can't handle at a certain age. Besides, I snuck family guy sometimes :D

      • A game is a game if it has blood in it then its virtual blood so who cares?

        • Problem is, it looks real.
Most children don't have the mental processes necessary to distinguish fake from real, acceptable from unacceptable, and they become numb that that rush or high felt off of being able to see the effects of their violent actions, combine that with their near lack of ability to differentiate reality and what just looks real and you've got the starting point of desensitization.

            • I'm not blaming video games, I am saying that they play a major role in desensitization to violence. I'm not saying that people should not take responsibility for their behavior but when you expose children to violence at such a young age they begin to believe that it is normal and numerous studies have shown that it does desensitize areas of the brain that respond to violence. I'm not saying that human nature has changed but to say that violence in modern society should be promoted towards children is nonsense.

And your second question is downright idiotic. The object of video game design for at least the past 7 years is to make the video game look at realistic as possible. How do pixelated characters on the screen look real? Do you play modern video games?

              • I'm pretty sure that people with a brain can see the difference between video game violence and real violence as it's much more shocking in real life.

              • You're over reacting It only affects children who have mental problems If you are dumb enough to copy the game then you have a much bigger problem what they say on the news and on TV is a bullshit lie and a cry for attention as they give unreasonable answers and stereotype it to make it seem like everyone is gonna do it like they know anything but they are damn stupid those people just need to come up with lies out of boredom they can fuck off.

          • I play violent video games all the time I'm use to the violence in the game but I still respond to real life violence so please without any true evidence don't say things like this I think its silly to blame a video game when people have been violent for thousands of years if not more its in our nature to be violent the whole desensitization crap is starting to get on my nerves lets just stop blaming video game fantasy with peoples behavior it's the persons fault not the game I disagree with you 100%

      • Haha, thanks! I like you too ^_^

I was sheltered pretty hard myself, but I had a few ways of getting around the rules a bit. I wasn't even allowed to have a television in my room until I was about 12.
