Is it normal kids drive me crazy

My 12 year old daughter drives me crazy she doesn't listen she is rude and is disrespectful to me. I ground her and whip her butt sometimes but it doesn't phase her at all. My nerves have about had it. I sometimes just want to sit down and cry or go some where that I could just scream and let it all out. I don't now what to do any advice?
