Is it normal it is taking time to get used to my girlfriends family?

I was invited over to her house and I am shy of seeing her family and I'm trying my hardest to get used to her family members, I've met her mom, her dad and her young 7 year old brother but I shy away from introducing myself. As much as I'm really am a shy person I just feel like it might take me time since she told me everything will be alright and I've got nothing to fear. I know people might judge me on this but I want to see if what I'm saying is normal and if its not normal I would like to know what it is that is not normal.

I'd like some advise how to tame my shyness from the next time I visit her house and seeing her family members.
