Is it normal if i only listen to hiphop/rap for the beat?

I love the beats of hip hop and rap, that's usually the only reason why I hear it. I try to keep up with the lyrics, yeah some are inspiring but mostly I can't relate to it, or its too much for me lol or I just don't get it. But the music itself is fulfilling and relaxing (if you listen to good hip hop and rap). For example right now Im listening to Kendrick Lamar, his songs are so catchy! Even though I don't know what he's saying or means most of the time, I just go with the beat and feel good. Also, they usually talk about smoking and I don't smoke but I still love the song. Now if they talked more about drinking, it'd be the whole package ;)

    Completely normal! I listen to a TON of Rammstein, even though I have absolutely no idea what they are saying! Hell, I even sing along in German, even though I have not even a basic understanding of the language or what the words mean! Music is wonderful regardless of why you listen to it!

    That's how I feel about most of the new stuff. All they're talking about is smoking, drinking, ass shaking, money making / spending, ass tapping, people shooting..yup. That's about it. You're not missing much :}.

    Kendrick Lamar is amazing. Even though Mac isn't really lyrical, the song Fight the Feeling is so catchy

    Wow. I never though I would hear somebody say they listen to Kendrick Lamar, and only like the beats.

    Personally I LOVE rap, in my eyes its a form of poetry and can be really deep if you give it a change, but if you don't always understand the lyrics try this site:

    Its a website that attempts to be the "Wiki" of rap of sorts, buy breaking down lyrics of artist, and explaining them in a way that easier to understand for someone in your position.
