My friend's mom was like this. I think it's normal not to love someone that doesn't do one thing that a loved one should do. Some of the things my friend's mom did: hit him in the head and put him in the hospital when he was little, accused him of having sex with his cousin (and told the whole family), stole any money he had, and took out a bunch of credit in his name. There's still some question as to who his father is.
A lot of people told him, "That's your mother. You still have to love your mother!" I don't agree with that at all. He's pretty normal now, but mostly because he doesn't talk to her any more.
