Is it normal if i enjoy being cold-hearted?

I have been called heartless, cold hearted, etc and I wouldn't necessarily call it that just cause it has a negative connotation but I have to admit I do lack emotions and I kinda like it. Imagine an event where you're supposed to be sad like a funeral or something, I will show my condolences but I don't feel sad and I like that I don't feel sad like everyone else is because thats just not a good feeling. Or if I got in a fight and someone offended me, yeah I would be concerned but it really wouldn't bug me as much as it was supposed to, I'm just careless and care free. I can never get hurt, nothing. The only thing is feeling good things like "love" but I feel the pros of being heartless outweighs the cons.

Is It Normal?

  • I am the same. I wouldn't say I like it, I wouldsn't say I dislike it either.
Let me guess, you are constantly bored, right?

  • Everyone fancies themselves a jaded antihero.

  • Careless = Cold hearted?

Usually when people describe themselves, they're telling you what they wish they were rather than what they really are.

  • I wish I could be cold-hearted sometimes. I'm too nice for my own good and it pisses me off, but it's hard for me to not care. Hell, I'm even nice to my enemies. There's this bitch I know, I'm STILL nice to her. I don't know why. ;~;

  • I am a lot like you in this post. I just dont care enough to make an effort in pleasing the general public to be "just like them" and be all sad over stupid things. I dont go to funerals anymore. I dont do very well at them- I am always the odd one out and not over emotional. I just stand there watching people cry, which really makes me feel weird. I have a baby and she is pretty much the only thing that can get me all worked up and emotional with. Are you on any medication that is used for a mood stabilizer? That can make feel just nothing about everything.

  • know how you feel about the whole its supposed to be a sad situation but your not sad at all. i remember one time when i came home from school and my mom told me my sister got into a car accident and instead of being shocked i started laughing and everyone was looking at me like i was a freak. and i'm not at all. sad stuff just don't affect me. and i'm definitely not a weird or crazy person i'm perfectly normal.

  • Hah, yeah thats normal. You just lean on the more sadistic side of life. It's a great place to be. Weak emotions won't get in the way for you!

  • I've been called a heartless bitch on many occasions. I'm not, I cry all the time and stuff hurts me on the inside, but I don't show it on the outside. Humans generally don't show weakness, and that's okay, but if you genuinely never feel anything at all (and I don't mean that you just don't show it) then that's known as being a psychopath. As a psychologist, I don't like to label people with that, but you sound that way.

I'm hoping you're not, you probably just don't like to show your feelings. However, if you genuinely feel nothing at all, then in my experience of people, one day something really bad will happen and you won't be able to deal with it. I hope for you're sake that you're kidding about feeling nothing.

    Good luck :)

    • I think in the terms of a Psychopath its more of a serious thing. For an example: Where you literally go out and shoot/kill someone- for no reason at all and be able to walk away and feel nothing. No remorse or anything.
      * I agree with trying not to label people with serious mental conditions, it generally doesn't help the individual. Medication can help but not cure. :)

  • I dont know if you lack the emotions so much as you cover them up very well. Perhaps you are used to covering them up for some reason, maybe you view them as a sign of weakness, maybe its a way to prove to yourself you are in control, or perhaps it is something else.
I understand exactly what your saying, to open your heart to love is to also make yourself available to hurt. But you cant experience love and happiness without experiencing hurt as we learn from hurt and we heal from hurt - how would we be able to determine who we are if we dont learn or heal?

    • I swear I don't cover anything up, I'm a pretty blunt person and will show you what I'm thinking or "feeling" so covering it up is not a problem for sure. I just don't feel it.

      • Perhaps your just incredibly logical and/or a leaner thinker. I would check out if you have a form of depression though to be sure as emotions is one of the things that defines a human.

      • I am pretty rational, too rational that people just don't accept why I do the things I do, but I'm not quite sure how this ties into a lack of emotions?

  • I think there's a growing number of people who are like that. Or maybe they're just attracted to this site. Actually, I'm interested now. How do you use the site and what do you get from it?
