Is it normal i want to name my baby girl svetlana?

Is it normal I want to name my baby girl Svetlana? I am 7 months pregnant and this name came to me in a dream for some reason and I think it is such a beautiful name. My husband doesn't like it but all the names he picks out are just plain ordinary names like "Shelly" or "Susy". We live in the South and I really don't want to name her a regular plain country name, but a beautiful, unique, sophisticated name. Is this normal or am I being nutty for really liking this name?

It's a nice Russian name. But when I think Svetlana I think of the Russian Sex Slave with pierced nipples. But that's probably just me.

Just have your kid tell everyone that they are part Russian. The kid will have a lot of trouble spelling that name in kindergarten too. Hopefully you guys have good genes for reading skills, lol.

His initials are SLM so I was wanting her initials to be the same. Her middle name is going to be Lynn (which he picked out and I agreed) so there is no debate on that. I looked it up and it is in fact a Russian/Slavic female name.

It's always been a favourite of mine. You may want to be careful with Lynn as a middle name because, as I understood it, Svetlana (light Lana or little Lana) and Lynn have the same roots (albeit via a circuitous pathway). But it would be like called a girl Jennifer and having the middle name Jenny.

I didn't know that I'm glad you pointed that out. What about Lindsey? That was the second choice for the middle name.

Lindsey/Lindsay works because it has an Old English root. I think a Lin is a pool or small lake. Nice name too. One of my favourite people in real-life is a Lindsay.

Lindsey is my husband's middle name so that's why that was the second choice of middle name. Meanings of names mean a lot to me too so I'm really glad you mentioned that. We live next to the lake so that makes it fit even more :)

I think you've got yourself a decision there!

Middle names are important to me too. The eldest son in my family carries on a traditional middle name. My dad has it and I have it. :D

Yes! Thank you very much for asking. I had her July 11th. It was a very difficult birth and she had to go to the NICU for a few days but she's 100% healthy now. It took me a few days to make up my mind for sure but her name is officially Svetlana Lindsey Munkus. She is such a blessing and I never realized my heart could live outside my body but it does because she is my heart. :)

I think that's a pretty name. But it should be something you both can agree on.

I'd say, If the name feels right for you and your partner, then do it.

However, don't think too much about it, it's best if the name would be something you'd randomly come up with. Ofcourse, your partner would have to agree (:

Then, if your partner feels comfortable with the name, which I find beautiful by the way,
        go for it. ^^

But remember, you're both the parents, you both have to feel good about the name (:

My old boss' name was Svetlana but it did get a bit mangled by quite a few people when they were trying to pronounce it.

You had the dream for a reason and it might have been the baby's way of telling you that this is the name that she wants you to give her. Sometimes babies name them themselves. x

That makes sense because I've never even heard this name prior to my dream and when I woke up it was in my head and it hasn't left.
      :)

not an unusual name. Well, maybe where you are from ^_^
But with increasing globalization, that's also started to affect names quite a while already, so yeah, of course, it's a girls name, you get a girl, you want to name her that, it's perfectly fine and normal.

Now if it was a baby BOY that would be different :)

Svetlana is common in many eastern European countries. My family comes from the former Yugoslavia and the name is common there also.

I like it. I don't know if I would name MY kid that, but I think it sounds nice. It might be a good idea to make sure she has an easy nickname too though.
