Is it normal i want to learn to write with my other hand?

I am a right handed person, and for some odd reason I have the urge to learn how to write with my left hand. I also have been using my left hand for things I'll usually do with my right one. This urge came completely out of the blue. Is this normal? Have you ever had to urge to learn how to write or do things with your opposite functional hand?

I've been trying to write with my left hand for years now, but I'm so freaking slow when I write... and it looks like a five year olds hand writing.

I'm a leftie and I used to try so hard to write with my right hand, purely because most pens smudge and I was tired of having a stain on the side of my hand or smudges in my work.

A typical lefty's problem.. Most things in our world are designed for people who are right handed though. :/

Being mostly ambidextrous I already can do most things with either hand except thread a needle/use a computer mouse and write.

I've always wanted to be ambidextrous. Especially if I see someone in a movie fighting with dual swords or something.

Always, always wanted to learn how to be ambidextrous. It's really hard though (with the fact that you have to learn how to write again), but I'd still consider it normal. :D

It's not that simple, the hand which you write with is decided upon which hemisphere of the brain is used to do the writing, it's usually the opposite side but if I remember correctly a lefty can be controlled by the left hemisphere sometimes.

The temptation has reached out to me before, although I never followed through on it. I actually wanted to relearn drawing with my left hand just in case fortune frowned upon me at some point and decided to strip me of the only thing I'm truly any good at. Now I really want to try it!

  • I'm trying right now...people say I write better with my left hand than my right. The only problem is I'm really slow... But I guess I'm still adapting. I'm definately gonna learn before I turn 25!! Your not alone on this one!

I'm actually working on that right now!

YEAH that's normal! I think that'd be a sick skill to have. And think about it, if you lost your dominant hand in a/the war you'd have your other hand to fall back on. And think of how much better and more efficent you can be at painting or bowling! I know my reasons aren't that great, but you get the gist!!!

Wouldn't it be cool if text was also allowed to be read/written from right to left as well?

While that would be cool, it would be a bitch to train yourself to be able to read backwards with any proficiency. lolz

I don't think it would be hard if people were trained that way from the beginning though.

No that wouldn't be difficult at all, but it would be a bitch for me. :P

O well, I had to learn the metric system later in life because my government wants to be different, so I guess I could learn that too!

I've always wanted to be ambidextrous. I'm right-handed. I've tried to write with my left hand, but it's much weaker than the right and I can barely hold much less write with a pen:( it's normal.

That would sure be fun to be able to use both hands. Wish I could use my left hand too.

Wish I could relearn to use my left hand.

I was originally left handed but I was not allowed to be and was forced to use my right hand, so when people see me writing with my right hand they ask me if I was left-handed because I never learned to write properly with my right hand :( My handwriting is tiny and illegible, I would love to learn with my left hand and have proper penmanship again.

It happened to me too about a year ago... I started to write with my left hand all the time and I got really good at it but I stopped doing it don't know why..

hehe, very normal, i learned during my teenage years. I think i may have been a lefty that was "drilled" to be a righthanded person, though.
I'm pretty much ambidextrous nowadays...e.g. when writing, i just use the hand closer to the pen, pick it up and start writing, without specific preference.
Funny thing is, my handwritings look pretty different between left and right. I used that in good measure in school to write "excuses" for myself, signed by either of my parents. I don't expect the difference to be significant enough to fool the police, though ;)
