I think the OP is more concerned with the ideological atmosphere and the apathy of the general populace. I've seen some of the similar things you have, OP, I've felt a driving urge to get out and get somewhere where the people give a shit.

It is worse out there now, but I'm more certain that the populace and the political climates of other nations will be a little more adept at pulling themselves up by their bootstraps than the one here in the US. I fear for the future of my country not because of the asshats who got us into this mess, but the idiots of my generation that will inherit it. If you doubt the severe possibility of a decline of our country, you need only look at comments posted elsewhere on this site and Youtube to get a barometric reading of our national intelligence.
