Psych wards are just places to milk the hell out of your insurance until it is almost tapped out. Those hospitals earn a couple thousand dollars per night per person and per room. Your length of stay is about how much your insurance is willing to shell out. The better the insurance you have the longer your doctor is going to make you stay...it does not matter how sick or how well you are in that case. You will stay the maximum time that your insurance is willing to allow and cover. If you have no insurance they will kick you out to the curb within a day or two..even if you are still gravely a danger to yourself or others. Thats what it boils down to. Money, not the welfare of the patient.
