Is it normal i want certain so-called "progress" to stop?

Humanity has an incredible amount of possibilities, certainly when you compare it with when it was in its infancy. However, I think that technological developments and such shouldn't go too far, because otherwise we will end up living in a truly freaky world, where virtually ANYTHING is possible. From pocket-sized atomic bombs to reading other peoples' thoughts, etc., etc. That's not a world I want to live in. I know I can never stop these developments, but I would like to anyway. IIN?

Is It Normal?

  • Technology is progressing, humanity isn't. I think we can do good with the technology if humanity was to become better.

I personally like the idea of us progressing, it could involve us being able to travel to other planets we know humans can habitat and expand our species.

This might be considered "nerdish" of me, but I will say it anyway. In the videogame Mass Effect 3, the character "Illusive Man" is trying to control this symphetic species that is destroying all organics species to advance humanity, while others are just trying to destroy them. The game is based in a time in which technology advanced amazingly and it made it possible to meet more species. He states that before that time humans were scared of the technology that would make us expand in knowledge, how it could of been a bad decision or the best one, it ended up being the best one, then he explains that it's the same to control the "reapers" (Synphetic species).

Basically he is saying that fear in our technology is something that can hold us back majorly in the progression of the species, which he is right.

Better? In what way exactly do you mean?

      I like your comment though...

    • I love your opening statement... Technology has progressed while humanity hasn't. I've heard people saying that the new human evolution will be merging with machines... Not gonna do much good if we can't advance our species independent from technology. From the time we really started using industry we let other forms of human development fall by the wayside.

    • I was just thinking about this coming home from Mcdonald's. Completely agree with this reply +1!

  • I'm in the same boat. I even hate it when they build new house in our little neighborhood.

  • I think that technology is evolving faster than humans are. This will truly be a test for our species. The ones who adjust to this and evolve more quickly will surely have the advantage, hopefully that advantage will be used to bring others to said position...

  • I believe technology is an infinite loop.
At some point in the past, we were far more advanced, which led to a global technological "fallout", bringing us back to the stone-age.

If things go on like this, at some point years from now, we'll be back in the stoneage.

Very interesting I must say. How do you know that though?

  • I even hate smart phones today cuz people are so obsessed to them that they are becoming more and more self-centred. Almost everyone is playing their digital devices when they hang out with me!!!
However, we are not able to stop the development of technology. The only thing we can do is to wait and see. I believe that scientists with conscience will never invent or publish 'pocket-sized bombs'.
Anyway, this kind of thins are just not in our control.

    • " I believe that scientists with conscience will never invent or publish 'pocket-sized bombs'"

It'll only take one less scrupulous scientist. I think that everything that CAN be invented, will be invented. Humanity as a whole has never been able to control itself.

"Anyway, this kind of thins are just not in our control."

      True.
