if you want a real answer it requires it to be readable, having a 3 page run-on sentence is not a post, its a mess. space it out in chunks so I can attempt to take bites out of it and read it all
It is still a post nonetheless, oftentimes with a real problem. That's like saying poorly written comments shouldn't be acknowledged either, in which case we would all be grammar gladiating in every post. My point is an OP shouldn't be subjected to that. It must be very disappointing to think someone finally answered your post (that might have been sitting for days until it got moderated) and when you get there it's just a rude comment similar to what you've just written. I still find it unnecessarily heartless. Empathy, dude.
There's nothing stopping somebody from deleting and resubmitting the question in a more manageable format.
This is a basically a public Q and A forum, and if the reason somebody didn't provide a constructive comment is because the question was horribly presented, they have every reason to say that.
Of course there are polite ways of delivering this, and impolite ways.
I generally notice the more rude ways on posts that aren't 'deeply meaningful', like "IIN I went shopping and somebody said I was pretty?!!?!?" Cue The Great Wall of China in text, without paragraphs. Rambling on and on and the title doesn't match the question if there even is a genuine question blah blah blah. Then people will say something akin to "Use paragraphs for fuck sake!" or TL,DR.
If it's something like "IIN I was abused?" - apart from that being a dumb question, it's probably a heartfelt post. People are more likely to be polite when criticising a horribly written question if it's about something emotionally sensitive. "Please use paragraphs."
Also, about resubmitting, people google if something is normal, think they've found a place where they'll find help, sign up and ask a question which takes a pretty long time (in internet-time 3 to 5 days is an eternity) to be moderated. So, yes, that would be an even longer delay for them to get a couple of answers, *if any*.
As long as they have provided an answer I think it's fine. That's what I've been saying. I haven't made a generalization as in asking people to respect bad writing in any case. It's basically what you described. The reason I made the story was that I had just seen a very rude comment like those again in a serious story.
Is it normal I've had it with this kind of comment?
