I have so many thoughts about this, but I can't really put them down. I get where you're coming from, being cool kinda makes your life a little bit epic. But to me it sort of sounds like you just want a do over, not really to sit with the "cool" kids but just not to want to sit with the reject kids you were with. They embarrassed you, after all who wants to be associated with people you don't like. I get your urge to be cool, but being cool isn't something that's set in stone. Try to distance yourself from your group, like you've been trying, and work on acting like you don't care about what other people think of you (even though you really do).
Keep in mind, I'm no expert on being cool, but from what I've observed as long you're having fun being you people will think of you positively. Of course, there will be the occasional haters.
Is it normal I value looking cool above my education?
