No one informed (or educated) you to provide 'special' treatment for this girl. Maybe even YOU require special treatment and NO one presently knows yet (not even you!) I say you BOTH should have received the same suspension of one day.
In my view, you were not treated fairly in respect to your presently understood equals (at the time). If that student had abused a teacher would that still be ok? Or would have the school been less understanding? Respect goes BOTH ways.
