  • Youth work permits are a state issue and each state has different rules. Some don't require them at all. Some don't require them after age 16. They all differ at least somewhat in their requirements, limitations, etc.

    Most don't require a specific GPA but instead reserve the right to pull your permit if your employment contributes to truancy or failing grades. Requiring minimum performance in school is reasonable because school should be your first priority as a child, not work. That should answer your question. Whether that's "right" for every situation is debatable but that's the basic reasoning for it.

    If this is a personal problem you're having, sometimes you can get special consideration if this is causing you hardship.
