I always thought saying 19-whatever was cool.
On topic, I use the last two digits for 1970 to 1999. So I'd say '99, or '86. But that doesn't really work for 2000s. You can't really say back in '05. It sounds weird, at least in my mind. I say 2002, or 2015 like it is and say '97 when referring to 1997. Now for a bit of 90s nostalgia.
I miss the late 90s and early 2000s. Rushing home from school to watch Swat Kats (freaking cats flying jets), Scooby doo, the Mask and the animated Godzilla series on our bigass CRT TV. I had a walkman as a kid, then a discman and then an mp3 player. Only the cool kids had portable music.
We had a VHS player and my mom and dad would give me cash to rent out movies. It's nostalgia that stays with you forever.
My dad had a 1996 Mazda 626 automatic with climate control and a cassette player with an auto reverse function.
In Eastern Europe air conditioning and automatic was considered top luxury. And my dad had that!
Heck, even nowadays those features are a luxury of sorts, but that's another story.
I liked the music. Even the most generic pop songs were catchy and fun. Music videos were artistic and cool with no spinning fruit on turntables, or rappers with serious speech impediments having a seizure on screen.
IIN I think of years like this
